Puerto Viejo
Elsie: “We had a beautiful Caribbean house near the sea and visited the Bri Bri Indians. It was very cool! ”
Puerto Viejo is the perfect place to start your well-deserved vacation and really take a break from the stress at work, the stress from running the family, cleaning the house or the hustle with the children. Because Puerto Viejo radiates peace and relaxation, many people start their vacation in Costa Rica at this place. They first relax on the Caribbean coast, to regain some energy here and then discover the rest of Costa Rica in an adventurous round trip.
The area around Puerto Viejo
The Puerto Viejo area consists of several white bounty beaches that are interspersed with rugged rocks. These rugged rocks run further into the sea to a beautiful coral reef, which you can explore by diving or snorkeling for a day. The area’s jungle grows almost to the beach and is full of special plants, tall trees, tropical birds and monkeys. If you want to take a walk through nature, you can visit Cahuita National Park. This park offers a beautiful walking route, which partly goes over the beach and partly leads you through the jungle.
The population of Puerto Viejo
The locals of Puerto Viejo are of Jamaican origin. You will notice this not only from Bob Marleys reggae that you hear from the wooden houses of the locals, but also from the delicious local dishes that are served in the restaurants of Puerto Viejo. If you eat in a local restaurant, you should at least taste the various dishes with coconut milk.
